Flee from fornication, adultery, and sexual immorality: a few verses to meditate on

Updated: Mar 17

Idiba ya bwam princess! Mmbaba tyé prince! Your oil is precious, don't spill it on pigs and sows. Make good use of the grace, time and gifts GOD has given you. Deal wisely with those outside (Colossians 4:5-6). Don't let yourself be seduced by the enemy, false doctrines and false brothers. "Make no mistake: GOD is not mocked. Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." (Galatians 6:7). Many, believing themselves wiser than GOD, believing themselves filled with more love than GOD (the one who gave his SON for their Salvation), have fallen into the traps.

Indecent dress, sexual lust between unmarried people, and sexual relations between unmarried people in the Bible are referred to as fornication, adultery, fornication, prostitution, debauchery, sexual immorality, or sexual misconduct. Sexual misconduct is not limited to sexual acts. It includes inappropriate touching, fondling, hugging, kissing, foul language, equivocal speech, singing, dancing, photos and videos. Drawing on the Bible and dictionaries, I define fornication as any sexual lust, equivocal language, equivocal attitude, or sexual action outside marriage.

Adultery or infidelity is the act of having sexual relations physically or in thought with a person other than one's spouse. Another definition is "the fact of a husband or wife violating his or her oath of fidelity, sharing, and having sexual relations with a person other than the person to whom he or she has affirmed this oath". Anyone who is fornicating is adulterous, and anyone who is adulterous is fornicating.

Beyond sexual relations outside marriage, and adultery, sexual immorality most often refers to :

  • The choice to dwell continually in fornication. Consequently, to be a stumbling block to others, the refusal to repent, the choice to dishonor GOD, to deny CHRIST, to refuse the help of the HOLY SPIRIT, to reject Salvation or lose it if received.

  • Unnatural sexual relations (including thought): rape, pedophilia, homosexuality, pornography, prostitution, touching, and sexual relations with animals, demons or satanic principalities.

Prostitution is the practice of touching or sexual acts in return for payment: money, gifts, benefits in kind, services, demonic powers, and satanic alliances.

No prayer and no offering can take the place of repentance and obedience 🙂 Below are some texts that I strongly encourage you to meditate on and study. As far as possible, start by reading them in your paper Bible. Give yourself some quality time with the HOLY SPIRIT and allow Him to speak to you through the Scriptures. Beyond knowing and understanding the texts, the goal is for you to be saved, delivered, transformed, and equipped for your salvation and that of many. If you're single, my question is: are you honoring GOD in your body and thoughts? If you're married, my question is: are you protecting your relationship or exposing it? If you're a parent, my question is: What role model are you presenting to your children? Have you taken the time to explain why this and that to your teenagers?

🙂 You can also organize discussions on one or more verses with those closest to you (friends, family, teenagers, and pre-teens). Having edifying discussions with your loved ones is a habit worth cultivating. You may have habits to correct or adopt. Maybe there are people you need to distance yourself from. Don't wait for the next divorce or scandal to do it. All GOD-breathed Scripture is good for edifying, encouraging, strengthening, delivering, teaching, convicting, correcting, and training in righteousness (1 Timothy 3:16-17). May your testimony edify those who hear and observe you. May your house be blessed.

" For this is the will of GOG, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know GOD." (1 Thessalonians 4:3-5, NKJV)

" For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify GOD in your body and in your spirit, which are GOD’s." (1 Corinthians 6: 20, NKJV)

" You shall not commit adultery." (Exode 20:14, NKJV)

" Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body." (1 Corinthians 6: 18, NKJV)

❖ (Matthiew 5:27-30, NKJV) : 27 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.

(Ezekiel 16: 15-18, NKJV) : 15 “But you trusted in your own beauty, played the harlot because of your fame, and poured out your harlotry on everyone passing by who would have it. 16 You took some of your garments and adorned multicolored high places for yourself, and played the harlot on them. Such things should not happen, nor be. 17 You have also taken your beautiful jewelry from My gold and My silver, which I had given you, and made for yourself male images and played the harlot with them. 18 You took your embroidered garments and covered them, and you set My oil and My incense before them. 19 Also My food which I gave you—the pastry of fine flour, oil, and honey which I fed you—you set it before them as sweet incense; and so it was,” says the LORD GOD.

(1 Corinthians 6: 15-20, NKJV) : 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of CHRIST? Shall I then take the members of CHRIST and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not! 16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.” 17 But he who is joined to the LORD is one spirit with Him. 18 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the HOLY SPIRIT who is in you, whom you have from GOD, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify GOD in your body and in your spirit, which are GOD’s.

(Ephesians 5: 3-5, NKJV) : " But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of CHRIST and GOD."

(Hebrew 13: 4-5, NIV): " Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for GOD will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because GOD has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

(1 Corinthians 5: 11-13, NIV): " 11 But now I am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people. 12 What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? 13 God will judge those outside. “Expel the wicked person from among you.”

(Apocalypse 18: 1-3, NIV): " 1 After this I saw another angel coming down from heaven. He had great authority, and the earth was illuminated by his splendor. With a mighty voice he shouted: “‘Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great!’ She has become a dwelling for demons and a haunt for every impure spirit,  a haunt for every unclean bird, a haunt for every unclean and detestable animal. For all the nations have drunk the maddening wine of her adulteries. The kings of the earth committed adultery with her,    and the merchants of the earth grew rich from her excessive luxuries.”

(Ecclesiastes 12: 13-14, NIV): " Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind. For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil."

(1 Corinthians 6: 9 -11, NIV): " 9 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of GOD? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of GOD. 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the LORD JESUS CHRIST and by the SPIRIT of our GOD.

(1 Peter 2: 9-12, NIV): " But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, GOD’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of GOD; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. 11 Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul. 12 Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify GOD on the day he visits us."

(Proverbs 23: 26-28, NIV): " 26  My son, give me your heart and let your eyes delight in my ways, 27 for an adulterous woman is a deep pit, and a wayward wife is a narrow well. 28 Like a bandit she lies in wait and multiplies the unfaithful among men."

🙂CHRIST died for all and is the redeemer of all who believe, whatever their origin. GOD is not against interracial and mixed marriages (people of different nationalities). There are examples of such marriages in the Bible. In this verse and more generally in the book of Proverbs, foreign means unbelieving, idolatrous, unrelated to GOD, non-disciple of CHRIST. GOD loves his daughters as much as his sons. What he says to sons, he says to daughters.

(Proverbs 6: 23-35, NIV): "23 For this command is a lamp, this teaching is a light, and correction and instruction are the way to life, 24 keeping you from your neighbor’s wife, from the smooth talk of a wayward woman. 25 Do not lust in your heart after her beauty or let her captivate you with her eyes. 26 For a prostitute can be had for a loaf of bread, but another man’s wife preys on your very life. 27 Can a man scoop fire into his lap without his clothes being burned? 28 Can a man walk on hot coals without his feet being scorched?29 So is he who sleeps with another man’s wife;    no one who touches her will go unpunished. 30 People do not despise a thief if he steals to satisfy his hunger when he is starving.31 Yet if he is caught, he must pay sevenfold, though it costs him all the wealth of his house.32 But a man who commits adultery has no sense;    whoever does so destroys himself. 33 Blows and disgrace are his lot, and his shame will never be wiped away. 34 For jealousy arouses a husband’s fury, and he will show no mercy when he takes revenge. 35 He will not accept any compensation;    he will refuse a bribe, however great it is."

(Proverbs 5 : 1-22) : 🙂 Open your Bible and read chapter five of the book of Proverbs.
