The prayer of petition (P.4) : Your will be done

Updated: Oct 8, 2022

Hallo intercessor! Your intercessions are fighter planes: interceptors, fighters, and bombers for the Kingdom. Keep going, don't stop: you are saving lives. Knowledge and understanding bring revelation. Prayer brings manifestation.

Part 1: GOD is our FATHER and he loves us. We are a family and a body of which CHRIST is the head.

  1. No effective prayer without GOD

  2. In this manner, therefore, pray

  3. Our FATHER who is in heaven

Part 2: We worship GOD alone.

4. Hallowed be your name

5. Thy kingdom come

6. Your will be done

9 In this manner, therefore, pray [proseuchomai, Strong n° 4336, greek]: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name [onoma, Strong n° 4336, greek];

10 Your kingdom come. Your will [Thelema, Strong n° 2307, greek] be done On earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. 13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil [poneros, Strong n° 4190, greek] one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. (Matthiew 6: 9-13, NKJV)

6. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven

He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down, and prayed, “ Father, if you are willing [Boulomai Strong n°1014, Greek], take this cup from me; yet not my will [Thelema, Strong n° 2307, greek], but yours be done.” (Luke 22: 4-42, NIV)

And He said, “ABBA, FATHER, all things are possible for You. Take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will. (Mark 14:36, NKJV)

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of GOD. (Romans 12:2, NKJV)

For this is good and acceptable in the sight of GOD our SAVIOR, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2: 3-4, NKJV)

He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the LPRD require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your GOD (Micah 6:8, NKJV)

My foot has held fast to His steps; I have kept His way and not turned aside. I have not departed from the commandment of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food. (Job 23:11-12, LSG)

From the Old to the New Testament in the Bible, several words are translated as will:

  • Ratsown (Strong n° 7522, Hebrew): that which pleases him, his grace, his favor, his benevolence. Examples: Esther 1:8, Psalms 103:21, Psalms 143:10, Psalms 5:12, Psalms 106:4, Psalms 145:16, Psalms 145:19).

  • Chephets (Strong n° 2656, Hebrew): delight, pleasure, desire, that which is pleasant. Examples: Psalms 1:2, 2 Samuel 23:5, 1 King 10:13, Psalms 16:3, Isaiah 48:14.

  • Choq (Strong n° 2706, Hebrew): law, commandments, prescribed tasks, ordinances, decrees, statutes. Examples: Job 23:12, Exodus 18:20, Psalms 119.

  • Reuwth (Strong n° 7470, Hebrew): Will, good pleasure. Examples: Ezra 5:17, Ezra 5:18.

  • Boulema (Strong n° 1013, Greek): counsel, purpose, aim. Examples: Acts 27:43, Romans 9:19.

  • Boulomai (Strong n° 1014, Greek): intentional will, loving will. Example: Mark 15:15, Luke 10:22, Acts 17:20, Acts 19:20.

  • Thelema (Strong n° 2307, Greek): what one wishes, has decided to do, commandments, precepts (teachings), desire, pleasure, inclination (approval). Examples: Matthew 6:10, Luke 41:42, John 6:38.

In summary, I would say that GOD's will is everything he plans, chooses, approves, he desires, loves, orders, teaches, designs, gives, and rewards. GOD has one will (universal, sovereign, ultimate), translated and revealed into several complementary wills (moral, specific), which are more or less progressively fulfilled.

GOD's sovereign will is accomplished by his own will. He does not ask for the collaboration of anyone before accomplishing it. Its accomplishment depends neither on the assistance of angels nor on the free will of Men. For example the creation of the universe, of men, of angels, the coming of JESUS on earth, and his sacrifice on the cross. GOD is Omniscient and Almighty. He can do absolutely everything: when he wants and how he wants. He can do everything, but he will not do everything. He will not violate the free will, he has given to Men. He will never go against Love, Truth, and Holiness. Love is the reason for Truth, Truth is the proof of Love. That is why GOD is Love, but He resides in Truth.

The moral wills are the ways of GOD: what he wants for all. They are written and summarized in the Bible: how to love GOD, how to love yourself, and how to love your neighbor. In his book Zones Grises, Pastor Jean-Philippe Beaudry writes " They are there to allow us to live all that GOD has for us in a healthy and non-destructive way. Through these ways, GOD teaches us how to succeed in our relationships, our projects, and especially, how to live a life that will glorify him. GOD's ways exist to teach us how to live our lives according to GOD's will. "

Specific wills include everything GOD specifically wants for a person, church, family, nation, season, project, situation, etc. Your talents and destiny are specific wills of GOD.

GOD's wills are understood and accomplished gradually. We become like CHRIST gradually, not instantly (Ephesians 4:13, 2 Corinthians 3:18). Inspired by the HOLY SPIRIT, the Apostle Paul tells us " Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may discern what is the will of GOD, what is good and acceptable and perfect." (Romans 12:2, LSG). In this verse, the adjective perfect refers to that which is fully accomplished in the time and context intended by GOD.

You have probably heard the terms imperfect will and permissive will of GOD. GOD is perfect. Therefore, his will is perfect. His will is perfect in its conception but imperfect in its understanding and execution by men. The imperfect will is that which is not perfect: the good and the pleasant. However, what is perfect for you today, may not be perfect for another person or may not be perfect for you tomorrow. For example, milk is the perfect food for newborns, but not for adults. On the other hand, you can be perfect in one area and imperfect in another.

The expression " permissive will " is an abuse of language. I agree with those who say that there is no such thing as permissive will. Instead of "permissive will" we should say what GOD tolerates and allows. What GOD wants, he approves. What he does not want, he tolerates because of the free will he has given to man. Permissive will is not what GOD wants, but what he tolerates. Tolerance is:

  • An attitude that consists of admitting in others a way of thinking or acting differently from that which one adopts oneself;

  • The fact of respecting the freedom of others in matters of opinion;

  • The limit of the accepted difference between actual and expected characteristics.

Many people use permissive will as an excuse for their choices, disobedience, and refusal to repent. As if GOD had given them special permission to disobey Him. This is false reasoning. GOD is honest and faithful to his word. His YES is YES and his NO is NO. There are no contradictions in GOD: there are only times and contexts. GOD has a will:

  • For Men: Salvation and the knowledge of the Truth.

  • Through men: each one of them fulfills his destiny and is an ambassador.

  • In men: the nature of CHRIST in us through the HOLY SPIRIT.

GOD's will is done in heaven. For it to be done on earth, our collaboration is necessary. His will must be accomplished in us, so that through us, it can be accomplished for the greatest number. GOD said to Moses: I have seen, I have heard, I have come down (Exodus 3:7-9). Immediately afterwards, he said to him, "Now go, I will send you to Pharaoh, and you shall bring my people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt " (Exodus 3:7-10). Who brought the people of Israel out, GOD or Moses?

The Apostle Paul said: We know that all things work together for good to those who love GOD, to those who are called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28, LSG). A way of saying: There is nothing that can happen that GOD does not know about, there is nothing that GOD cannot use and there is nothing that GOD cannot comfort us with. Nothing escapes his control. He is the master of times and circumstances (Daniel 2:21). He knows perfectly the causes and effects of every action, word, and thought. In absolute terms, GOD is limitless. His only limits are those that he imposes on himself.

It is sometimes difficult to discern and choose the will of GOD. Wanting his will is not enough. No one can accomplish the will of GOD without GOD. He reveals his will, he equips and strengthens the one who wants to accomplish it.

Love is the reason for the existence of truth, Truth proves Love. One without the other does not exist. Love is the hand that gives the food that is Truth. We are spoons that GOD makes, moves, adjusts, and replaces so that others may be fed and healed.

JESUS always said that he did nothing of himself (John 5:19). He said, "For I came down from heaven not to do my own will, but the will of Him who sent me." (John 6:38). He bent his will to that of the FATHER. He left the pleasant to grasp the perfect. Yet at his death, we would have said the opposite. I take this opportunity to tell you that difficulties are not proof that GOD is not with you. ⇒ What you see does not change what GOD says.

By saying that your will be done on earth as it is in heaven, we are saying: Give us the knowledge, understanding, desire, ability, and determination to do your will. Make us grow in love and faith. We bend our will to yours : we choose your will.
