1001 Prayer topics : #12 Lebanon

Tena istellin intercessor! Доброго ранку (Dobroho ranku) he who sounds the trumpet! May GOD make you hear the cries of sentinels, widows and orphans. May you grow in wisdom.

The trees, which are your work, O LORD, are full of sap. Such are the cedars of Lebanon that your hand has planted. (Psalms 104:16, Semeur)

Yet a little while, and Lebanon will be transformed into an orchard, and the orchard will be like the forest. In that day, even the deaf will hear the words of the book, and out of the darkness and gloom, the eyes of the blind will see. Yes, thanks to the LORD, the humble will rejoice more and more. The most disinherited of men will exult in joy thanks to the Holy One of Israel (Isaiah 29:17, Semeur).
" And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, a Man stood opposite him with His sword drawn in His hand. And Joshua went to Him and said to Him, “Are You for us or for our adversaries?” So He said, “No, but as Commander of the army of the LORD I have now come.” And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped, and said to Him, “What does my LORD say to His servant? (Joshua 5: 13-14, NKJV)

Lebanon is a country in the Middle East, bordering Israel to the south, Syria to the north and the Mediterranean Sea to the west. It is one of the smallest states in the Middle East.

The name Lebanon comes from the Semitic root lbn (in Phoenician 𐤋𐤁𐤍) meaning "white" or "milk", in reference to the snowy mantle that covers the Lebanese mountains in winter.

This country was successively named

  • "Lebanon" (circa 2900 BC), for the whiteness of its year-round snow-capped mountains.

  • Then "Phoenicia" (circa 1200 BC), because of the purple trade that made it so rich ("phoinix" means "red" in Greek),

  • Followed by "Syria" (circa 330 BC), because of the great wealth of the city of Tyre (from the Arabic صور, Sour) and its influence over the whole region,

  • And finally "Lebanon" again in 1920 when France established a mandate over the country and created the Lebanese state.

In ancient times, Lebanon was called Phoenicia. Phoenicia corresponded to present-day Lebanon, plus the Syrian island of Arward. It included, for example, the cities of Tyre (Ṣūr in Arabic) and Sidon (Saida in Arabic). Tyre in Greek means rock. Sidon in Greek means fishery. Tyre and Sidon were on good terms with Israel under the reigns of David and Solomon. They later became enemies, and Tyre rejoiced at the fall of Judah. As a result, GOD judged the city (Ezekiel 26).

Jezebel, King Ahab's wife, was the daughter of the king of Tyre and Sidon. Originally, Sidon was a city in Canaan, founded by Canaan, grandson of Noah. Canaan corresponds more or less to the territories comprising the states of Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, western Jordan and western Syria.

Lebanon is one of the few countries, if not the only one, to have more nationals living outside its borders than inside. Only a third of the Lebanese population resides in Lebanon. It is said that 41% of the Lebanese population is Christian, mostly Catholic and Orthodox. According to figures published by American intelligence agencies in 2020, 34% of Lebanon's resident population is Christian. (The World Factbook published by the CIA). This is the highest percentage of all Christians in the Near and Middle East.

The cedar is the national emblem of Lebanon. There are 72 references to the cedars of Lebanon in the Bible. The Bible describes the cedar as strong and enduring (Isaiah 9:10), graceful and beautiful (Psalm 80:10, Ezekiel 17:23), tall and lofty (Amos 2:9, Ezekiel 17:22), fragrant (Song of Songs 4:11) and spreading widely (Psalm 80:11-12).

This article had been in draft form since February 2023. I had started writing it just after the invitation to pray for the Christians of Palestine. But I didn't have the words in intelligence. I prayed in tongues.

A few days ago, I had a dream. Five men sitting in a desert. They were all dressed in large, white, three-piece boubou. However, their headscarves and turbans were different from one another. On the third piece of their boubou, they each had the flag of a country. I couldn't hear what they were saying. I was watching from a distance. In the dream, my attention was on the one with the Lebanese flag. Compared to the others, he was young, thin, exhausted, stressed and hesitant during his speaking time. The dream stopped before I could observe anything else.

(Jeremiah 22:13-17, Louis Segond 1910) : "Woe to him who builds his house with injustice, and his rooms with iniquity; who makes his neighbor work without paying him, without giving him his wages; who says, 'I will build myself a large house, and spacious rooms;' and has windows drilled in it, panelling it with cedar, and painting it red! Do you reign because you have a passion for cedar? Didn't your father eat and drink? But he practiced justice and fairness, and was happy; he judged the cause of the poor and needy, and was happy. Do you not know me? says the LORD. But you only have eyes and a heart to indulge in greed, to shed innocent blood, and to exercise oppression and violence."

❖ (Ezekial 26:2-3, NKJV) “Son of man, because Tyre has said against Jerusalem, ‘Aha! She is broken who was the gateway of the peoples; now she is turned over to me; I shall be filled; she is laid waste.’ “Therefore thus says the LORD GOD: ‘Behold, I am against you, O Tyre, and will cause many nations to come up against you, as the sea causes its waves to come up.

(Ezekial 22:30, NKJV) "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one."

(Joshua 5: 13-14, NKJV) " And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, a Man stood opposite him with His sword drawn in His hand. And Joshua went to Him and said to Him, “Are You for us or for our adversaries?” So He said, “No, but as Commander of the army of the LORD I have now come.” And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped, and said to Him, “What does my LORD say to His servant?
