Movies selection n°1

Updated: Oct 4, 2023

Sabah alkhyr (صباح الخير) young people! May our FATHER grant us the grace to do in our youth what we have the strength to do!

A great way to have a good time with friends and family is to watch a good movie. I don't watch Christian films exclusively, but I exclusively watch movies that uplift me. Some movies are commercially labeled "Christian" but unfortunately do not conform to the Kingdom's message and values. I love uplifting movies and series. Those whose theme, message, script, and images teach me, encourage me, inspire me and join my values. These are my criteria. At home, there is no shortage of DVDs and I particularly like to offer DVDs of Christian films to pagans. If you've read my article I didn't have the words, you can easily see why. Today on a personal basis and through the association Partage Ton Rhema, I regularly offer Christian filmography.

Series TV

ABATTOIR produced by Mount Zion Faith Ministries

Suspense, intrigue, and lessons at the rendezvous! A series that strengthens faith and reminds us that there is no Salvation in any name other than the name of JESUS. It's about Martins, son of the LORD, whose natural father is an occultist. After having assassinated his wife (the mother of Martins), to obtain occult powers, he wants to destroy the life of Martins even if it means killing him, to have more occult powers. But The LORD is faithful, and He will never give up His children.

A series that deserves a place on the big TV channels. Seasons 1 & 2 are available for free on one of the two YouTube ministry's channels. The series is broadcast in English, but translations into different languages are in the pipeline.

ABEJOYE produced by Mount Zion Faith Ministries

I was really surprised by this series. I started with season 4, and then I went to watch the first three seasons. Just wow. Don't be fooled by the poster. This is not a series reserved for Africans. The scripts are authentic, enriched with humor and deep truths. The series is a tremendous reminder of how much forgiveness, self-control, and the nature of CHRIST are essential in winning people over to JESUS. All seasons are available for free on the ministry's YouTube channel. The series is broadcast in English and Yoruba, but translations into different languages are in the pipeline.

Films :

PAUL, APOSTLE OF CHRIST

Definitely a must-see movie! I love everything about this film: the theme, the message, the quality of the pictures, and the script. The dialogues are refined and inspired by verses from the Bible. Nothing to do with films on the Gospel whose scenes are centered on miracles and great moments. Every time I watch this movie, I think of the persecuted Church and realize how important it is for the Free Church to translate into different languages what it receives from the HOLY SPIRIT. The film is translated into different languages, including German and Arabic.

DIFRET (ድፍረት)

Released in 2014, Difret is a secular, Ethiopian-American drama film based on the lived story of Aberash Bekele, a 14-year-old Ethiopian girl. Kidnapped according to the tradition of kidnapping marriage. The day after her rape, she accidentally kills her attacker while trying to escape. Destined for the death penalty by law, she is rescued by a lawyer and businesswoman Meaza Ashenafi. Coming from an Orthodox family, Meaza is a pioneer of women's rights in Ethiopia. This trial will end one of the oldest Ethiopian traditions and inspires many reforms.

This movie reminds us that we shouldn't just pray for change, we should inspire change. The dialogues are concise, the scenes without decorations extravagant and the performance of the actors is more than remarkable. This film is not a call for pity but an encouragement for all those who stand up. May the LORD bless Meaza Ashenafi. I hope to see a biographical film about her in a few years. She is an example, a gift for millions of women in Africa and elsewhere.

GIFTED HANDS: The Ben Carson Story

For many, this film is no longer to present. In some schools, the biography of Dr. Carson is always on the list of books to read. The film is secular, but neurosurgeon Ben Carson is Christian. It was my father who introduced this movie (a long time ago). Failing to remember the title of the book I had retained the story. This film encourages those born in underprivileged backgrounds, who raise their children alone or who want to escape the statistics of failure. I learned 2 lessons from this movie:

- You don't have to be wealthy or highly educated to be a good parent. We need GOD's grace, a sense of responsibility, and a vision.

- The grace of GOD gives us capacities and opportunities, but it will not do the work for us.

- Even the gifted have difficulty. Being talented is not enough, you have to be persistent.

SELMA

Martin Luther King Jr is no longer needs to present. A Pastor and nonviolent activist for the American civil rights movement in the United States, he is one of those who made history. Selma is an account of events that took place in the towns of Selma, Alabama, and Montgomery, the United States in 1965. Events referred to as the Steps from Selma to Montgomery. The film is secular, but the man was truly a servant of JESUS CHRIST.

Like Pastor Martin Luther, this film reminds us that it is possible to be militant, non-violent, and biblical. It is possible to fight with GOD's methods. We are very far from the militant marches of the world. It is not communication techniques that make us leaders, but our commitment to stand up for just causes.

CHRISTINA NOBLE

She is the founder of Christina Noble Children's Foundation. International association, which since 1989 takes care of hundreds of thousands of children in Asia. The foundation has orphanages, reception centers, schools, rehabilitation centers, medical establishments. In addition to the orphanages that belong to it, the association also carries out projects for various orphanages, thus allowing other organizations to benefit from their grace, their experience, and their skills to become autonomous.

The film traces a large part of Christina's life. Born in Ireland, she has experienced poverty, abandonment, mourning, rape, domestic violence, and divorce. I do not know if the director of the film is Christian, but I warmly welcome the originality with which the exchanges of Christina, a practicing Catholic, with GOD are presented. It is clearly not biblical to address any statues (give my article no excuse for idolatry). However, I will always rejoice in the works of the HOLY SPIRIT. It's not what we think changes the world, it's what we do. If anyone displeases me to mention this film, my answer is simple: pray for her and her children. Beyond the film, Christina's testimony reminds us that compassion doesn't just watch, it acts. She dared, she started with what she had, what she could, without fear of getting her hands dirty, and the LORD made it grow.

I hope you enjoyed this first selection, see you in a few weeks for the next one.
