Adolescents: a category of children

Hi little brother of JESUS!  Hi little sister of CHRIST! GOD loves you! Don't doubt it. You're a marvel, don't doubt it. GOD has good and beautiful plans for you. Never doubt it.

❖ (Mark 10:13-16, Sower) : "13 Some people were bringing him little children so that he could touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 When JESUS saw this, he was indignant and said to them, "Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of GOD is for those who are like them. 15 Verily I say unto you, He that receiveth not the kingdom of GOD as a little child, shall not enter therein." 16 Then he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them."

❖ (Proverbs 22:6, Sower) "Teach the child the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not deviate from it. "

❖ (Ephesians 6:4, Sower): "You fathers, do not exasperate your children, but bring them up by educating and counseling them in a way that is in keeping with the LORD's will."

Initially, this article was a paragraph of the article on infant baptism (teenagers and non-teenagers). When I wrote it, I made it a separate article.

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child defines childhood as the period from birth to 18 years of age, unless under the law applicable to the child, majority is attained earlier. The same convention defines adolescence as the period between the ages of 10 and 19. Adolescents are therefore a category of children.

The World Health Organization (WHO) defines adolescence as the period of life from age 10 to 19, and youth as the period from age 15 to 24. Young people are therefore adolescents over the age of 14, and adults under the age of 25. In medicine, there are four age groups for children.

  • Newborns: 0 to 27 days

  • Infants: 28 days to 23 months

  • Children: 2 to 11 years

  • Teenagers: ages 12 to 17

🙂 Dear teenagers, don't be upset or surprised if an adult calls you "children". The word adolescent doesn't exist in every language. For example, in the language of my ethnic group (Bassa, Cameroon), there is no translation for the word adolescent.  There are only two words for children: one for those under 2 years of age, and the other for those between 2 and 18.

🙂 JESUS at age 12 (Luke 2: 41-42):

  • Was aware that GOD is his father ⇒ He had a relationship

  • He asked questions at the temple. ⇒ He was interested in and studied the Scriptures

  • He amazed teachers (mature adults) with his intelligence and the quality of his answers. ⇒ He understood the Scriptures.

  • Yet he was presented as a child. It is even specified that he grew in wisdom, stature and grace, before GOD and men (Luke 2:52). A child with an exceptional IQ, exceptional wisdom or exceptional grace is still a child.

In civil law, an adult is called an adult (age of adulthood) and a non-adult is called a minor. The age of civil or legal majority is set by each country.

Examples:

  • In France, the age of majority begins at 18, but juvenile courts can extend to adults under 21.

  • In Cameroon, an adult is a person aged 21 or over (the day after the birthday).

  • In China, the legal age of majority is 18, the age of the current year, not the age of majority.

  • In Denmark, you're considered a child until the age of 14, and a teenager between the ages of 14 and 18.

A few expressions not to be confused with :

  • Puberty: The period of physical transition of the body occurring during adolescence, generally from age 11 for girls and 12 for boys. Adolescence is the period of psychological and social development and change that generally extends from age 10 to 19.

  • Civil or legal majority: the obligation to answer for the damage you have caused by repairing it in kind or by equivalent, through the payment of damages. If the perpetrator of the damage or offence is a minor, civil liability (vicarious liability) falls to the parents or legal guardians.

  • Contractual civil liability: the obligation to answer for damage resulting from the non-performance or improper performance of a contract.

  • Criminal liability: the obligation to answer for criminal misconduct or offences committed and to suffer the penalties laid down by the texts that punish them.

  • Nubility: minimum age for marriage with the consent of a judge, parents or other legal guardians.

  • Matrimonial majority: minimum age for marriage without the consent of parents, guardians or legal representatives.

  • The minimum age for taking an exam, accessing a right, benefiting from an advantage or complying with an obligation. Example: opening a bank account, driving license, military service, joining the army, drinking alcohol, etc.

🙂 Dear adults, let's be good role models.

** Hi = shortened friendly greeting in English
